AUGUST 2021
Rio Real Golf 26th August 2021
This week we played Rio Real, although the greens had been recently hollow tined, they were still in great condition and a good test all round with some thick testing rough.
The top 3 scores were all very close and Gary played with the eventual winner who finished in top form with 15 points in the last 5 holes, although at times luck was definitely on his side, Gary had always wondered what them bottom grooves were for on the club.
Results from Rio Real
1st Brian "bottom groove" Rowlands 36pts, playing off 10.5,cut to 9.8
2nd Gary Sparrow 35pts, playing off 10.8,cut to 10.6
3rd Luis Benal 34 pts, playing off 11.5,no change
Nearest pin in 1 hole 6 Luis Benal
Nearest pin in 2 hole 17 Luis Benal
Next week we are at Mijas Los Olivos and will be Sponsored by the very generous Jamie Wilson.
Please contact John Yuill ASAP if you wish to play

Cabopino Golf 19th August 2021
This week we played the magnificent but very tricky Cabopino Golf course sponsored by the ageless Ray Critcher.
The course was in great condition as usual and just to try us more they had pushed most of the tees to the very back which made it play even longer but despite this the scores were much better than our last visit there.
Our eventual winner and in fact the top 3 were made up of the 4 ball Gary played with and it went right down to the very last putt of the day, Gary eventually finished 5th it would have been nice to have the top 4 from one group!
One of the many stories that came out back at the Dragon was the nearest the pin winners ball actually took 3 bounces in the water before popping on the green to about 5 feet, its said even the Dambusters missed sometimes, so did Les he didn’t come away with a birdie, he did manage a par!
Results from Cabopino
1st Jamie Wilson 34 pts playing off 1, cut by 0.2 to 0.8
2nd Simon Waby 33pts,playing off 5.7, no change
3rd Bob Sawyer 32 pts, playing off 9.3,now off 9.4
Nearest pin in 1 hole 15, Les Johnson
Nearest pin in 2 hole 4,Jamie Wilson
Guest prize, Jason Kotowski, 29 pts ,playing off 8
Next week we return to Rio Real, if you wish to play please contact John Yuill ASAP

Santana Golf 12th August 2021
This week we played our home course Santana , kindly sponsored by the original Fawlty towers duo at the Red dragon Andy and Trish.
The course as we have come to expect was in fantastic condition. The course played quite long with the tees pushed back on quite a few holes and a fair bit of breeze, The normal winning score for Santana is around 40 points this week the best we could manage was 36!
Back at the dragon there plenty of excuses were made especially from last week’s winner, who obviously realised the severity of his handicap cut last week, 22 points not getting anywhere even on a lower scoring day!
A small discussion was had on where the nearest the Pin board should be on the nearest the pin holes if a player holes out in one or two! Some believe it should be the side of the green, but we believe it should be in the hole, Simon Waby’s 12 foot putt was in the middle of the hole so that’s where the pin belongs! .
Our winner today with 36, should have been 40 plus points he had 11 points after 3 holes and then managed to bring himself back to the rest of the field a bit! Well played though Tony!
Results from Santana
1st Tony White 36 pts, playing off 11.6.cut to 10.9
2nd Simon Waby 34 pts, playing off 5.7, no change
3rd Jamie Wilson 31pts, playing off 0.7, no change
Guest prize Dave (The Shank) Errington, 33pts,playing off 12.2
Nearest pin in 1, hole 16 , Tony Anderson
Nearest pin in 2,hole 14, Simon" the Eagle" Waby
