December 2016
Parador 29th December 2016 Today at the Parador a small band of members played our last game of the year. It was Individual stableford. Unforntunatly due to the recent heavy rains and flooding the course was not in its usual superb condition. However the greens were perfect and very fast which caught many of us out. First today with a score of only 30 points playing off 15.3 cut to 14.3 was our amiable landlord Andy "Marigold" Hassall. Andy goes forward to the "Champion of Champions" final in May. Second with 29 points playing off 11.5 cut to 11 was Dave Robertson. Third also with 29 points but with a worse back nine playing off 19.7 cut to 19.4 was Ian "Aye Say" Ashworth. Nearest the pin in one on hole 13 was Bob Sawyer with Tony Anderson nearest the pin in two on hole 4 Our guest prize went to Garry Sparrow. A fine end to the year back at the Red Dragon with plenty of banter and drink. Calanova 22nd December 2016
Today’s game at Calanova was Individual stableford. This was our first time back here for a couple of years. What a change. The club house was absoluty fantasic. Today’s game at Santana was Individual stableford and was sposored by Rob and Lynda Walker. Today was also special as there was a prize for the best Christmas Outfit, and there were some great outfits. The Prize for the best team and buggy went to Jerry Halford, Andy Pritchard and Family. Look at the photos and you will see why. The prize for the best Lady went to Lynn Yuill. I especially liked her outfit as "Robyn's little helper". Well done to everyone for getting into the Christmas spirit, it made for a fun day. Despite the terrible flooding in the Mijas valley with the exception of hole eight the course was in its usual great condition. This was borne out by the very high scores. Our winner today with a massive 43 points playing off 19.3 cut to 15.9 was Pat O Connor. Second with another great score of 41 playing off 15.9 cut to 14 was Alan Shankland. Third with 36 points playing off 21 cut to 20.4 was George Cowley. Nearest the pin in two on hole 16 was Larry Byrne. Nearest the pin for men on hole 14 was Jerry "The Elf" Halford with Sue Cobb nearest the pin for ladies on hole 7. The Guest prize went to Andy Pritchards father in law with 38 points. Thanks once again to Rob and Lynda for some really great prizes. It was then time for usual fun banter after another superb day. Thanks again to Trish and the team at the Red Dragon for looking after us. El Higueral 8th December 2016
Today’s game at El Higueral was Individual stableford. Whilts it is only a nine hole course it is one of our favorites. To make it interesting The men play of the yellow tee for the first nine and the white tees on the second nine. The ladies play of the red and yellow tees. Despite the flood and monssons over the weekend the course was in good condition. Although the undualting greesn caught most of us out. Our winner today with a creditable 34 points playing of 5.3 now cut to 4.3 wasJerry Halford. Second with 31 ponts playing of 16.3 cut to 15.8 was Larry Byrne. Third also with 31 points but with a worse back nine was Jammie Farrow. Nearest the pin in one on hole 3 was Andy Pritchard with Patrique Gallet nearest the pin in two on holes 7 Another good afternonn back at the Red Dragon La Cala - Asia 1st December 2016
Today’s game at La Cala was Individual stableford and was sposored by Peter and Pauline Bull. We started the day with tea/coffee and pastries in the sun at the club house. But unfortunatly the weather very quickly deteriated. The day turned into the worst weather conditions we have played in so far this year. In fact toward the end of the game some us were caught in a rain storm, Despite the weather it did not stop us enjoying the day. As you would expect after the monsoon weather over the weekend the fairways were not in the best of condition. However I have to say the greens were first class. Despite the conditions there were some quite high scores. Our winner today scoring a great 38 points was Linda Walker playing off 25.2 cut to 23. Second also with 38 points but with a worse back nine was Steve Popjoy playing off 15.7 cut to 14.4. Third with 35 points was Jerry Halford playing off 5.7 cut to 5.3. Nearest the pin in one on hole three was Sally Davies with David Laybourn nearest the pin in two on hole fourteen. Our guest prize today went to Andy Pritchard. Thanks to Peter and Pauline for the great prizes and the team at the Red Dragon for keeping us fed and watererd. |
