Cabopino Golf 31st December 2021
Last week we played the very tough course Cabopino, this was reflected in the scores which apart from the odd game have been traditionally low.
After last weeks rain the front 9 was still quite wet in places despite the recent glorious sunshine, which made it difficult on some holes ( that was our groups excuse anyway.
Anyway despite the excuses and low scoring most enjoyed the day probably due to the temperatures being up into the low 20s and feeling more like spring than late December.
When the cards had been checked our popular winner on countback by having a better back 6 holes was one of the stalwarts of the society and ageless Ray Critcher, well done Ray .
Results from Cabopino .
1st Ray Critcher 28 pts, playing off 10.7, now off 10.5
2nd John Yuill, 28pts,playing off 26.4, now off 26.5
3rd Gary Sparrow,27pts, playing off 9.8, now off 9.9
Nearest pin hole 16 , Gary Sparrow
Nearest pin in 2 hole 4 ,Ray Critcher
Next week we are playing Santana which is the start of the new season and of course the start of the order of merit, please let John Yuill know ASAP if you wish to play as tee times have to be confirmed with the club and you may be disappointed if you ask to play early next week.

Santana Golf 23rd December 2021
This week we played Santana which was kindly sponsored by Jamie Watkins.
This was our first game for a long long time which after starting in overcast and murky Conditions turned into rain half way round, yes we do get rain sometimes and this was the first time for nearly 6 months.
The course was as usual in great condition and will be even better now after the rain I'm sure.
With it being just before Xmas there was a small field of 20 players including 4 guest players, but unfortunately by the end several players had already called it a day due to the rain.
When the scores had been checked our winner came in with a superb score of 37 points, well done Tarja.
Results from Santana
1st Tarja Juvonen 37 pts, playing off 26.2, cut to 24.6
2nd Gary Sparrow, 35 pts, playing off 9.9, cut to 9.8
3rd Howard Ablett 31 pts, playing off 23.5. ,now off 23.6
Nearest pin hole 2, Ray Critcher
Nearest pin in 2 hole 14, Gary Sparrow
Guest prize was won by Damien O'Neil with 26 pts
Next week we are playing Cabopino, if you wish to play, please contact John Yuill ASAP.
One more thing, there was 2 cards yesterday with all 4 players scores on, this makes it hard to check the scores, please only have the markers score and the players score who's card it is on there please .
Merry Christmas to all our members far and wide and hopefully see more of you in the new year fingers crossed

Parador Golf Club 16th December 2021
This week a small but merry band of golfers played at Parador golf kindly sponsored by the 1 and only Larry Byrne.
In some of the most testing conditions we have played in for a while due to the 60km per hour winds and the fact we were right on the coast it turned out to be a challenge to say the least.
After everyone had warmed up back at the red dragon and the scores had been checked and independently verified by our very own Carol Vordeman aka Lynn Yuill the presentation was done.
Results from Parador
1st Gary Sparrow 36 pts, playing off 10.6, cut to 9.9
2nd Larry Byrne 31pts, on countback, 18pts back 9, playing off 20.3, now off 20.4
3rd Luis Bernal 31pts, 15pts back 9, playing off 10.2, now off 10.3
Nearest pin hole 13, Viggo Gjelseth
Nearest pin in 2 hole 3, Dave Robertson
Guest prize won by Kevin Woodward

Mijas Las Largos 9th December 2021
This week we played at Mijas Los Lagos sponsored by the Torreblanca golf society, there were 2 competitions played, firstly the normal stableford comp but also it was the final of the Medal/Net championship.
With temperatures hitting nearly 20 degrees we made the mistake In thinking this would be favourable conditions to play the tough Los Lagos course but alas by the time we got to the 1st tee the wind had got up so we all knew it was going to be a tough day.
The course as usual was in great condition with slick greens which only got quicker as the round went on which from personal experience made putting tough (one of my many excuses anyway).
I had the pleasure of sharing a buggy with John Yuill for the final and it was an entertaining day especially with John managing to end up on 3 different holes playing the 17th, after a good drive he somehow managed to then end up on the 15th hole then after the next shot end up on the 18th tee.
Results from Mijas Los Lagos
Medal winner
Simon Waby gross 84
Net winner
Bob Sawyer Net 81
Stableford comp
1st Luis Benal 29 pts playing off 10.5 ,cut to 10.2
2nd Dave Robertson 27 pts, playing off 11.4, now. off 11.5
3rd Andy Hassall, 27 pts, playing off 12.6,now.off 12.7
Guest prize was won by Des Connolly, 29 pts, playing off 18.9
Nearest pin hole 16, Viggo Gjelseth
Nearest pin in 2, hole 3, Simon Waby
The medal championship was a close game most of the way with Simon and Bob pulling away from the others but in the end the winner with a gross 84 was Simon Waby which in them conditions was a great effort.
The Net winner was Bob Sawyer to add to his order of merit win so a very successful year for him.
The stableford comp was a close affair with only 2 points between the top 3, this was eventually won by Luis Benal.

Mijas Los Olivos 2 December 2021
This week we played a 2 man Texas scramble at Mijas Los Olivos, the day was sponsored by Gary Sparrow, this was the first time the society had played a 2 man scramble instead of the usual 4 and it seemed to be a great success.
As well as the usual Nearest the pin challenges, another "challenge" was added and this was to play to the par 3 16th hole with a left handed Club off the tee. From the group I was in there were certainly 4 different outcomes to this shot and that's putting it nicely. The winner of this was actually left handed and I'm assured he did use a right handed Club.
Unfortunately, 1 team had to play as a 3 man team due to odd numbers and the main story to come back to the Red Dragon later was that the person in the buggy by himself actually managed to "misplace" his buggy at some point, asay asay Mr Ashworth.
When the scores had been checked the winning pair had an unbelievable score as they actually managed to shoot a level par gross round which is not bad considering they were both off 21 & 22 handicaps, well played both of you.
Results from Mijas Los Olivos
1st Viggo Gjelseth & Trevor Oates, gross 70, Net 59
2nd Gary Sparrow & Tony Sidebottom, gross 71, Net 64
3rd Tony White& Ian Cope. Gross 71, Net 65.
Nearest pin hole 3, Neil Tomlinson
Nearest pin in 2 hole 13, Ray Critcher
Nearest pin hole 16 with left or right handed Club Trevor Oates
Next week we are back at Mijas again but this time playing Los Lagos, this is the medal/Net finals day.
The players not in the final will play a separate stableford comp as normal.
