February 2017
Cabopino - 23rd February 2017
Today’s game at Cabopino was sponsored by Phil and Shan Ashcroft. Today was a team game. The first 6 holes the best score by one, second 6 best score by two, the last 5 best score by three with everyone scoring on the 18th It was also the end of the month so there was an individual stableford game as well. Confusing, not really it turned out to be great fun. Despite the thunder storms and rain elsewhere on the coast I am pleased to say it remained dry all day at Cabopino. The winners of the team game with 78 points was Colin Bryan, Dennis Regan, Andy Hassall and Pat Gallet with a score of 78 points. The winner of the individual stableford and going forward to the "Champion of Champions " final in June was Colin "badger" Bryan with 36 points playing off 23.4 cut to 21.8. The nearest the pins in one on hole 13 was Larry Byrne with Peter Bull nearest the pin in one on hole 16. To end a great day we celebrated Catherine Shiels birthday back at the Red Dragon. Not only was its Catherine's birthday but she won her knockout competition game against Simon Waby. Thanks to Phil and Shan for the great prizes. Santana - 16th February 2017
Today’s game at Santana was sponsored by Ian "Aye Say" Ashworth and was individual stableford. Well winter returned with a vengeance a very cold and cloudy day for us today. Despite the recent heavy rains the course was in good condition. Our winner today with 35 points playing off 24.2 cut to 22.9 was Peter McDonald. Second also with 35 points but with a worse back nine playing of 19.9 cut to 19.1 was Ian Robinson. Third with 34 points playing off 22.3 cut to 22 was Leon "X Factor" Dore. Nearest the pin in one on hole 16 was Robyn Wheeler with Tim Hemming nearest the pin in two on hole 14. Our guest prize went to John Saunders. There were 5 knock out competitions played today. Peter McDonald beat Larry Byrne. Sue Cobb beat Pat O Connor Andy Pritchard beat Steve Popjoy Tony Anderson beat Robyn Wheeler Ian Ashworth beat Tony Sidebottom It was good to get back to the Red Dragon to warm up. Thanks to Ian for the great prizes. Marbella - 9th February 2017
Today’s game at Marbella was sponsored by Dennis "The Younger" Regan and was individual stableford. Despite the initial mix up with the tee times and the slow play it was a good day. The weather was better with the sun at last shining. The course was not in its best of condition, although that and the late start did not affect the winners. Our winner today with 38 points playing off 27.1 cut to 24.9 was our leader Robyn Wheeler. Second with 35 points playing off 16.2 cut to 15.5 was that amiable Welshman Alun Short and third playing off 26.9 cut to 26.6 was the man himself Dennis Regan. Our guest prize went to Michel G. Nearest the pin in one on hole 3 was Joe Wright with John Allan nearest the pin in two on hole 8. Another great day with the usual banter back at the Red Dragon. Once again thanks to Dennis for the prizes. El Higueral - 2nd February 2017
Today’s game at El Higueral was sponsored by Barry Douglas and was individual stableford. This is a nine hole course so to make it interesting the men played off the whites and the ladies played off the yellow tees on the front nine. As the weather forecast was not good only a small band of brave member's travelled to the course. Despite the odd spots of rain the weather held off. That was unless you were in the last fourball who were caught in the rain on the eighteen green. The course was in great condition with the greens lighting fast and this caught quite a few of us out. Our top three winners today all scored 32 points so their positions were decided on countback on the back nine. First playing off 17.9 cut to 16.9 was Andy Pritchard. Second playing off 16 cut to 15.5 was Norman Tillbrook and third playing off 22.1 cut to 21.8 was David Dines. The guest prize went to Dave Worthington. Nearest the pin in one on hole 10 was Norman Tillbrook with Andy Pritchard nearest the pin in two on hole 16. Our thanks to Barry for the great prizes. |
