Calanova 31st January 2019
Today's game was at Calanova was not only for individual stableford it was also our end of month competition with the winner going forward to the "Champion of Champions" final in June. Toady was kindly sponsored by Iain and Kirsten Hardeker. It was the coldest and windiest day of the year so far. With the greens very quick and with the high winds its was a very difficult day. Our winner toady playing off 23.1 cut to 22.1 was Leon "The X Factor" Dore. Second playing off 32.7 cut to 32.2 with 31 points was Ruth Thompson and third also with 31 points but with a worse back nine playing off 18.5 cut to 18.2 was David Henderson. Fourth with 29 points was Ian "Aye Say" Ashworth. Nearest the pin in one on hole 8 was Larry Byrne. nearest the pin in one on hole 17 was Paul Barrett with Kenny Bradshaw nearest the pin in two on hole 4. We also played a game in our knock out competition with Pat Gallet beating Gary Sparrow. Lauro 24th January 2019
Today's game was at Lauro where we played holes 19 to 27. It was kindly sponsored by Mike and Felicity Broomby. Not only was it very cold, also it was very windy, that was despite the sun shining. There were various prizes to be won today. Our winner today in the men's category with a score of 34 playing off 10.1 cut to 9.1 was Dave Robertson. Our Winner in the Ladies category was our newest member Pauline Fink with a score of 38 points playing of 36 cut to 33.8. Second with 32 points playing off 22.1 cut to 21.6 was Neil Tomlinson. Third also with a score of 32 points but with a worse back nine playing off 13.7 cut to 13.4 was Catherine Hills. Nearest the pin in one for the men on hole 26 was David Henderson with Mark Mathews nearest the pin in two on hole 15. Nearest the pin in one on hole 2 was Pat Geraghty. Today's game at Mijas Los Olivos was sponsored by Shan and Phil Ashcroft. The format today was Four Ball Better Ball (Pairs). It was a very cold and cloudy day, however it was helped by the course being in good condition. Our winners today with a score of 44 points was John Gardener and Tony White. Second with a score of 42 points was Des Hamilton and Dave Robertson. There was an additional prize for the team that had the best value for their money. This went to Richard Steffin and Steve Thomas. Nearest the pin in one on hole 16 was Keith Davies who scored a Hole in One. Well done. Nearest the pin in two. Just inside of of Bob Sawyer , was Dennis"The Younger" Regan. There were also two games in our Knock Out Competition. Paul Winter beat Paul Barrett and Colin Bryan beat John Walters. La Cala - Europa 10th January 2019
Today's game at La Cala was on the Europa Course and was sponsored by Des Hamilton. After a breakfast of coffee and pastries and with course in superb condition it was a perfect day for golf. Our winner today with 38 points playing of 16 cut to 14.2 was Catherine Hills. Second with 36 points playing of 27.8 cut to 26.7 was Shan Ashcroft. Who scored an Eagle on the first hole. Third also with 36 points but with a worse back nine playing off 20.8 cut to 19.9 was Norman Liddell. The guest prize was won by Norman Walker. Nearest the pin in one on Hole 10 was Simon Waby with John Walters nearest the pin in two on hole 12. We also played three games in our Knock Out Competition. Catherine Sheils beat Simon Waby after playing an extra hole. Jerry Halford beat Leon Dore and Tony White beat Sally Davies Santana 3rd January 2019 - Scouse Trophy.
Today's game at Santana was our first major of the year. The format was a Texas Scramble and we were playing for the coveted "Scouse Trophy". Well really it is a Ford Hubcap sprayed gold and mounted on a plinth, Today's game was sponsored by that lovable scouser Bill "The Weather Man" Giles and his lovely wife Pat. You wouldn't be surprised to learn that somewhere in Los Boliches there is a car with only three hub caps as the other one is the trophy. It was a perfect winters day for golf not too warm but the sun was shining and as usual the course was in perfect condition. First with a score of 58.5 was the team of Sean Fenton, Keith Davies, Pat O Connor and David Henderson. Second with a score of 62.3 was Rick Booth, Sheila Booth and Sharon Ross. Third with a score of 62.7 was Andy Hassall, Jamie Watkins, Gary Sparrow and Bob Sawyer. There was a prize for nearest the pin in one on all par 3's. On hole 2 it was Rick Booth, hole 7 it was Cameron Foran, hole 12 it was Callum McArhur, with Pat Giles on hole 16. Our thanks to Bill and Pat for the great prizes. |
