JULY 2021
Mijas Golf - Las Largos 29th July 2021
This week we played Mijas again but this time playing the magnificent and very challenging Los Lagos course. This was one of a handful of medal comps we are playing this year and there were some let's say interesting numbers came in.
The day was kindly sponsored by the birthday boy himself Dennis Regan who certainly enjoyed his day with plenty of drinks back at the Red Dragon
There were some players playing shots from some very interesting positions especially the holes with water on as the breeze played its part, there was also first hand witness’s of a shot on the 3rd hole from one of the guest players, apparently he has gotten rid of the shanks, but Dave Errington managed to hit a 2nd floor apartment on the 3rd tee much to the bemusement of the occupant! He did end up in the fairway though!
As is normal with medal there were two sets of winners, gross and , the gross competition winner was settled on countback after Simon Waby made an unexpected trip to the driving range on the last hole.
Our net winner was a popular winner John Yuill and certainly was not expected by us or John himself.

Mijas Golf - Los Olivos 22nd July 2021
This week we played Mijas Los Olivos sponsored by Lynn Yuill, as usual it was in magnificent condition, the course that is not Lynn, sorry Lynn couldn't resist.
This was a course change due to the poor condition of El Chaparral.
With the hot summer temperatures upon us it was tough but very enjoyable day with the scores in the top 5 very close.
Our eventual winner by 1 point was the ageless Ray Critcher, a magnificent and very popular winner, not bad for a 81 year old.
It was also good to see 2 members from England over playing , Mike Boxall and the unique Denis Pollock.
Back at the Dragon a great evening was had with even our happy go lucky landlord giving free shots away, we think there maybe of even been alcohol in them too.
Results from Mijas Los Olivos
1st Ray Critcher 36 pts, playing off 9.8 cut to 9.4
2nd Brian Rowlands 35 pts,playing off 10.5 cut to 10.4
3rd Dennis Regan 35 pts,playing off 23.6 cut to 23.2
Nearest the pin hole 16 Brian Rowlands
Nearest the pin in 2 hole 4 Simon Waby

Santana Golf 8th July 2021
This week we played our home course Santana and as usual it didn't let us down, the course was in magnificent condition, the head the head green keeper must of woken up in a bad mood as the tee boxes were all pushed back and the pin placements in some wicked positions .
The day was kindly sponsored by Jamie Watkins who generously put some extra prizes on for some different challenges, even 1 that involved hitting a marshmallow!
The scores in the end were all very close with only 6 points separating the top 10 .
Well done to our winner who before the last couple of months was always in the top 10 but this loss of form coincided with getting married, we will let you make your own conclusions with that one.

This week we played the tricky Lauro golf course and was kindly sponsored by Ian and Kate Cameron.
The course played tricky and tight as ever but was in superb condition and with temperatures high, hydration was key!
As always a variety of scores came in but thankfully these were much higher than last week at Cabopino.
Eventually Lynn managed to put her wine glass down long enough to count and verify the cards.
Our winner was our current masters champion Dennis Regan, he described his round “as almost a perfect”.
The guest prize was won for the 2nd week in a row by Julie Sutherland ( probably because she was the only guest with a creditable 31 points more than double her score last week..
We did have a surplus of 1 prize because none of us were able to hit the green in 2 on the nearest the pin in 2 hole so our sponsors suggested that the person who came last should have this and was presented to a very grateful John Yuill.
1st Dennis Regan 37 pts playing off 25, cut to 23.4
2nd Tony White 35 pts playing off 11.6,cut too 11.4
3rd Mike Milner 33 pts,playing off 16.4, no change
