I didn't have the privilege of knowing Jack, but seeing those that turn up hearing some great stories, I am sure this is wanted he would have wanted a fun filled day. Yes there was some tears and some sad moments, but there was plenty and laughs and drinking. Jacks grandson young Jack presented the prizes and his two beautiful granddaughters joined in to present the trophy, say a few words and raise a glass to the great man. Hopefully this day will continue in the years to come, thanks to for some great prizes. Thanks to the Trish and the staff, they worked hard to keep the drinks flowing! Next week is Parador and the Torreblanca US Masters, bring it on!!! Miraflores Golf 25th March 2016

Today was individual stableford points and was sponsored by The Red Dragon. Today was a new major for us, the first Red Dragon Passed Members Days, playing for The Micky Gillingham Trophy. The course was in great condition, the greens as good as you get. The wind was strong today making the scoring lower than normal. Our winner today with 34 points was Barry Douglas off 22.8 cut to 21.8. Second was David Laybourn with 33 points off 12.5 cut to 12. Third also with 33 points but a worse back 6 off 13.8 cut to 13.5. Nearest the pin in one was Donald Mackenzie, nearest in two was Andy Hassall. Our guest prize went to Jerry Minchella. Well done to our winners Barry gets to be first on our new Micky Gillinghan Trohpy. The Trohpy was Kindly donated by Leon (X Factor) Dore. We had a good if not late evening in the Red Dragon, thanks to Trish and the girls. Two knock outs where played today Bill Giles beat Tony Sidebottom & Simon Waby beat Tony Anderson. Today wasn't just about the golf, it was also to remember past members. We have lost some great members in the last few years within this family we call a society; we have all I am sure lost friends and family too! So today we are honouring our great friend and golf partner Micky Gillingham who died in 2015 Micky was diagnosed with Leukaemia . After many months in and out of hospital they at last found a donor for a bone marrow transplant, his daughter! After a long and painful operation we all thought the bone marrow transplant was successful as he appeared to be getting better and stronger, even joining us again at the Red Dragon for a beer and to do the presentations Unfortunately this turned out not to be the case! His humour and sense of fun will be sadly missed by us all. Micky was our handicap secretary and co-founder of our society and our friend (unless he had just cut you!) No longer will we see Micky waving the “Silencio” board trying, in many cases unsuccessfully, to control everyone whilst he made the presentation. No longer will we see Micky don his butchers apron and weald his chopper (get your minds out of the gutter I mean axe) as he cut the handicaps at the prize giving. No longer will we see Micky standing on the tee aiming to the left, what a slice, it always ended up in the middle of the fairway Lynne Heath, Micky’s partner sends her best wishes and hopes you all enjoyed the day! We all raised a glass to Micky, some more than one. |

Bobby also had a birthday today and although not a big milestone reaching 79 is a fantastic. Many thanks for all the help at the course from Sue, Lynn and Bob. I am pleased to say that most arrived at the course in plenty of time we still had a couple and a no show. If you can't make it please let either or both Robyn and myself know, it would take some of the stress out of a Tuesday. Next week is Parador, it is our passed members today we will all be playing for the Micky Gillingham Trophy. |
