Marbella GCC 31st March 2022
This week we played our 2nd medal competition of the year at Marbella GCC kindly sponsored by Julie and Sheila.
The course was in excellent condition with the greens running very quick.
With the all the cards where in and checked we had some unfortunate news for the player with the best Gross score. The player only had one marked score on his card, part of our society rules insists on two scores the player and the markers. The responsibility falls on the player to ensure the marker is recording his own score as well. It’s a shame as a gross 84 was an excellent score on a tough course.
Our two eventually winners with an 88 gross and 75 Nett also played very well.
Results from Marbella
Gross:
1st Ian McCarthy 88
2nd Andy Hassall 89
Net:
1st Andy Hassall 75 better back 9
2nd Paul Winter 75
Nearest pin hole 3 Paul Winter
Nearest pin in 2 hole 10 Dave Robertson
Guest prize Julie Net 64
Next week we play our first Major of the year, The Masters at Cabopino and a chance to get your name up in lights on the boards in the Red Dragon, what more could you want.
Please only putt your name forward to play if you intend to turn up and play, recently we have had far too many people change their minds and drop out once they see the tee sheet come out!

Santana Golf Club 17th March 2022
This week we played the annual Past Members Day at Santana golf club. The day was very kindly sponsored by Vincent Robinson who although had not played for quite a while he still wanted to sponsor the day.
This is a trophy competition to remember our members who had passed away in the last 12 months and was more poignant this year with the passing of Robyn and more recently Lynn, a toast was raised to them both on the terrace just before the presentation.
On a testing day of high wind everyone thought maybe the usual high Santana scores wouldn’t be posted, although down slightly the top 3 posted very respectable scores (not so for many more).
Our sponsor very kindly put his prize of a bottle of wine for Nearest the pin back in so it could be won by someone else by drawing a card out, firstly John Yuill drew his own card out, but put it back for someone more needy, when this was done again and we saw the winner, that was the end of the bottle going back in as it was Colin Bryan who won it and as most of you know there was no chance of that going back in to be redrawn.

Anoerta Golf 10th March 2022
This week we played at Anoreta Golf Course kindly sponsored by Neil and Kim Tomlinson.
This was the first time for a few years the society had played here and although the course played very tough, an enjoyable day was had by all.
The course was bone dry because of the lack of rain and when the scores came in and were checked the golf course was the definite winner with only a handful of the 35 players getting 30 points and above.
The quote of the day came from our happy go lucky landlord at the Red dragon Andy Hassall, who said /moaned that the fast downhill putts kept going and going past the hole if you hit them too hard, but as we said to him at least it's uphill for your next putt.

Miraflores Golf Club 3rd March 2022This week was a sad week for everyone connected to the society, we said farewell to one of our great and much-loved characters of the Torreblanca Golf Society Lynn Yuill. Lynn passed away last Tuesday after suffering a major stroke.
The family held a very nice service with many members in attendance. Tributes were read out at the celebration of Lynn's life in Mijas Chapel, followed back at the Red Dragon with plenty of stories about Lynn which nearly all involved a glass of vino. The celebration of Lynn’s life went on until quite late.
John and the family's wish was that our golf day and presentation continued (it’s what Lynn would have wanted).
Players that wanted to play at Miraflores went ahead an played, from a small field, with a note
that once again Philomena won another nearest the pin!
