OCTOBER 2021
Santana 28th October 2021
This week we played our final medal qualifier of the year before the final in December at Santana kindly sponsored by Martin & Kay England.
As usual the course was in superb condition albeit the head green keeper must of woken up in a bad mood as most of the tees were pushed well back and the flags mostly at the back of the greens.
With a full house of 40 players and still getting blessed with temperatures in the mid 20's it was a superb day out.
As usual there were tales of woe and some strange stories developed with probably the funniest one being our gross score winner trying to give everyone a chance after his wayward tee shot by then going for the wrong green, thanks for giving us all a chance Simon.
When all the scores were in it was a close run thing in both the gross and net competitions.
Back at the dragon the biggest cheer was for a stalwart of the society Philomena Curren winning the nearest the pin in 1 on hole 12.

Miraflores 21st October 2021
This week we played Miraflores golf and was kindly sponsored by Mark Matthews, the course wasn't in its best condition to say the least with a varying speed of greens and some being re-laid as we were playing however with temperatures still in the mid to high 20's and more new faces who we haven't been seen for nearly 2 years a good day was had by all on and off the course.
With over 30 players the scores came in and after several checks by Lynn (her wine glass of course not the cards) we had a 3 way tie at the top on 35 points, this went to countback and our winner was Martin England with a back 9 of 20 points.
Back at the dragon afterwards the usual inquest began with the usual poor excuses be made, Gary included we were then delighted to see Big Roy Sherratt make an appearance after a long time away, welcome back Roy.
Results from Miraflores
1st Martin England,35 points, playing off 11.4,cut to 10.9
2nd Viggo Gjelseth,35 points, playing off 21.1 cut to 20.7
3rd Russell O'Connell,35 points, playing off 15.4,cut to 15.2
Guest prize was won by Jean Walton
Nearest pin hole 4, Ian McCarthy
Nearest pin in 2 hole 10, Martin England

El Chaparral Golf Club 14th October 2021
This week we played Texas scramble at El Chapparal kindly sponsored by Alan and Ruth Thompson, despite them not being able to be over here they kindly still sponsored the day and also as it was John and Lynn Yuill’s wedding anniversary John and Lynn kindly put some extra prizes on which meant we had Nearest the pin on all the 6 par 3's.
Eventually through all the building work everyone managed to find the course although 2 players did get a bit lost.
There were a few surprisingly high scores in and in the end one team won quite convincingly with a great team score.
Results from El Chapparal
1st Pat O’Connor, Viggo Gjelseth, Phil Dodd, Jan Dodd with a magnificent score of 56.33
2nd Phil Ginn, Ray Critcher, Ian McCarthy, Dave Robertson scoring 58.15
3rd Simon Waby, Bob Sawyer, Jim Madden, Brian Rowlands scoring 61.05
Nearest the pins
2nd Mike Boxall
4th nobody as the marker was not left by 1st group oops so was raffled off back at the dragon.
10th Simon Waby
14th John McComb
16th Kay England
18th Simon Waby

LAURO GOLF 7TH OCTOBER 2021
This week we played Lauro golf, holes 19 to 27 then 1 to 9 kindly sponsored by Mike Boxall, the course was not at its best unfortunately, but a good day was had by all despite this.
After last weeks high scoring at Santana this was a fairly low scoring week with only 4 players scoring in the 30's.
Our eventual winner with a score of 35 points was Phil Ginn, closely followed by Andrew Dodd with 34 points.
Nearest the pin in 1 was Andy Hassall with a great shot to about 4 foot, unfortunately the birdie putt was missed much to mine and his playing partners amusement.
Nearest the pin in 2 was Simon Waby who I understand didn't miss his birdie putt.
Results from Lauro
1st Phill Ginn 35 points playing off 16.1 cut to 15.6
2nd Andrew Dodd 34 points playing off 10.6 ,no change
3rd Martin England on countback from Me 32 points playing off 11.3 now off 11.4
Nearest pin in 1 hole 2, Andy Hassall
Nearest pin in 2 hole 8, Simon Waby
